Proof that Chinese exports are still rising, in certain areas, China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) a leading Chinese shipping company has ordered 5 of the world’s largest container ships from Hyundai Heavy Industries. The 5 ships were originally ordered as 18,400 tonnes but were later upgraded to 19,000 tonnes.

The previous largest ships are the 18,270 tonnes Maersk container ships built by the Daewoo Shipyard in South Korea.

The first ship is scheduled for delivery in November 2014 and each ship will boast a 400-metre deck, while standing 30.5 metres high and 58.6 metres wide.

The design features a 77,200 hp electronically-controlled main engine and two seawater treatment systems that can filter and sterilise 3,000 m2 of seawater per hour.
