The leading truck manufacturer Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles (DFCV) in china has announced its entry in to the most prestigious and exciting round the world yacht race starting in October 2014.
The race is the longest and most exciting sailing competition in the world and always attracts the best and most competitive sailing crews. The gruelling race will start on October 4, 2014, day of the first In-Port Race in Alicante, Spain, and finish with one last In-Port Race on June 27, 2015 in Gothenburg, the Swedish home of Volvo.
The 40,000-nautical mile route will include stopovers in Cape Town (South Africa), Abu Dhabi (UAE), Sanya (China), Auckland (New Zealand), Itajaí (Brazil), Newport, Rhode Island (USA), Lisbon (Portugal) and Lorient (France).
For the next two events the crews will compete in a new high-performance boat, the Volvo Ocean 65, designed by Farr Yacht Design in the United States and built by a group of boatyards in the UK.
Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles is part of the Dongfeng Group which manufactures cars, trucks, buses, construction equipment and diesel engines in joint ventures with companies like Nissan, Honda, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault and Cummins.
The Chinese entry will be run be leading sailing experts OC Sport and will include Experienced Chinese sailors and academy trained crew to encourage the sport of sailing in China.
