  • The Causes of the Generator Set’s Failure to Start

You are here: Home » News » Technical Articles » The Causes of the Generator Set’s Failure to Start

The frequent problem of the genset is failure to start in daily work, which causes that specialized equipment can’t be normally used. And there are several common situations leading to the failure to start of the genset:

    1) The battery is in the state of malfunction. The battery should be inspected at once when the diesel rotates s slowly even can’t rotate if the start button of the genset is pressed. Multimeter should be used to check whether the battery voltage can reach the rated voltage DC24V. When the alternator is usually in the automatic state, the maintaining of the contact between monitoring to the whole genset of its ECM and EMCP depends on the power supply from the battery. If the battery charger outside is out of function or the discharge occurs in the inside battery, the battery electricity will not be complemented, causing the voltage decreasing. At that time the battery must be charged. The charge time lies on discharge condition of the battery as well as rated ampere of the charger.

    2) It is should be checked whether the battery binding post keeps good connection with connection cable. If there is too much the battery electrolyte during the ordinary maintenance, it is easy for the electrolyte to flow out to corrode the binding post and increase the resistance, leading to poor connection of cables, moreover, it is possible for the genset not to start.

    3) It should be inspected whether connection cable of positive and negative electrode  which starts motor is fast and hard. The case that vibration occurs when the alternator operates can loosen the connection cable as to cause poor connection, even the alternator fails to normally start. Regarding starting the motor, though there is little possibility of malfunction, it can’t be ruled out.

    4) The malfunction of fuel supply system is also likely to cause the genset’s failure to start. It is a frequent phenomenon that the air enters into the fuel system. Usually it occurs when it is not properly treated during the process of replacing the fuel filter element. The air enters into the pipe together with fuel, reducing the fuel content of the pipe and he pressure, which is not enough to make the injector open the injection nozzle to finish the high-pressure injection nebulization. In this way, the engine fails to start. At that time, exhaust treatment should be done, and it is ok for the pressure of fuel transfer pump to reach the correct number.
